So last night I played Danny for match 3 of the Racquetball Summer League at the Big C.
I played well, won all three games 15-8, 15-12 and 15-8. The second game was the closest as he took an early lead with 4 ace's on the serves right from the beginning. I found myself "dwelling" on some bad returns and missed backhands that were supposed to be easy returns. When the score hit 7-8 I started hitting a differnet serve. I started in center court and hit a drive serve to his backhand, hard and low right into the corner, then I changed the angle using the same set up position to have it hit off the side wall instead of going to the corner. That got him on 3 aces in a row. He won the rally on a missed shot that landed short of the front wall by me and he got 4 points and then I rallied with a few more aces to end the game.
Third game I continued to dominate with the drive serve to his backhand switching it up to his forehand a few times which caught him reaching the wrong way in anticipation. On second serves I tried to mix it up as well with high lobs to the back hand, high lobs to the forehand and high Z lobs to both fore and back hands from differnet positions in the service box. This worked well as it was difficult for him to get a bead on his returns as almost every serve was different from the last.
I also went into this match with a much more focused, almost agressive attitude. I feel I should have taken at least 1 if not 2 of the games from my last match and felt I should have taken 1 more from my first match. That would have made a huge differnece in my overal W-L record. Originally went into tht elague to have fun now I'm in it to win. Not knowing what to expect and this being my first league I was taking it very light heartedly, which was alright but my opinion changed when I realised, I'm working just as hard but just not walking out of the court with a win and it wasn't because of skill level as we're all very closely matched, it's a matter of mental attitude and focus.
On a side note my match # 4 was never scheduled as Brooke never called me back. There's a make up week so I guess I'll wait for him to reach out, but from what I hear he's missed at least 2 of the 4 games and maybe 3 games so far.
