Saleem and I have run into each other at the gym on several occasions. He's always been very helpful and supportive and said he will play anyone any time. So after several attempts I finally got a few games in with him.
I held my own the first game 15 to 8 I lost and second game I lost 15 to 2.
I kept hitting the ball to his forehand which is pretty much anything 6 inches to the left of the left wall. He always positions himself for a forehand shot if he can. He has a good backhand but his forehand was almost always a kill shot. I also need to work on hitting the ball lower, more knee level than as opposed to waist level and my serves are very inconsistent bouncing off the side wall right into the middle of the court setting my opponent up for a perfect kill shot on me or I end up hindering their shot cause I move to the middle court after I serve.
Not to make excuses but my legs were toast as I did a 45 min spinning class at 6 am and then played Saleem at lunch. My left quad was cramped up most of the second game which affected my play.
I figure next week is the start of the tournament so I needed to pick up the pace so I've been playing more and doing more cardio to build the stamina. It's getting there but I hate, hate, hate being sore every day. Last Sat i played paintball with some friends for 8 hours, running in the woods, shooting people with paint, nothing better. And I could walk the next day though gingerly:-) Now it's friday and my legs are finally recooperated from last weekend (mostly).
We're heading to Arnold, CA for the weekend so I'll take today off and get a hike in on Sat afternoon or Sunday through the redwood forest up there. I'll wear Jillian in the backpack which will up the ante a little bit. She's only about 22 lbs but it makes a difference on a 5 mile hike.
